Notes from the field of public involvement

Do you want voice with that choice?

David Walker writing in Society Guardian questions whether the rhetoric of participation amounts to democratic reality in public service bodies. Frank Dobson has focused attention on the low turnouts in most Foundation Trust elections. There is a looming problem of organising hundreds of simultaneous elections for the coming waves of candidate Foundation Trusts into 2006. Direct public participation in running the NHS could be about to be tested in the wake of Monitor’s actions in removing the chair of Bradford Foundation Trust.
